A quick look at the Council Tax bills recently delivered through your door, which were prepared by the Finance Department at Scarborough Borough Council, show a very misleading figure relating to Adult Social Care.
In 2016/17, the Adult Social Care precept was introduced. The income generated from this line item on our bills is ring-fenced, meaning it can only be used for adult social care services. For Band B properties the figure was £17.11, which was roughly a 1.9% increase on the NYCC precept.
In 2017/18, the Adult Social Care precept rose. For Band B properties the figure was £34.91, which was roughly a 104% increase. As a percentage of the NYCC precept, roughly a 3.9% increase on the NYCC precept.
The Council Tax bills delivered to us all state a 2% Adult Social Care rise. Something doesn’t add up! It begins to look like the Finance Dept at Scarborough Borough Council need someone with a head for figures!
Maybe we could club together and buy them one of those flashy abacus things bean counters rave about…
