ARGOS: Public Meeting Called

Hard on the heels of yesterday’s article “CORRIGAN Appeals re ARGOS Madness” (covering the ‘regeneration’ of the former ARGOS building – the vehemently-opposed pet project of SBC Leader Councillor Steve SIDDONS [Lab.]), posters have begun to appear throughout the Bottom End proclaiming a Public Meeting to thrash out the ‘cons’ and ‘cons’ of the Council’s incomprehensible determination to plough ahead with the ARGOS plan (the ‘pros’ are non-existent). Leaflets are being delivered door-to-door.
Clearly, a well-organised ‘People Power’ crusade is afoot.

‘People Power’, as former North Yorkshire Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner Philip ALLOTT now knows to his cost, can move mountains – or at least sweep aside arrogant fools and blowhards.
Alas for Mr ALLOTT, his ignominy has since been plastered all over every media outlet from The Times of London to the Little-Storping-on-the-Swuff Gazette. That is ‘People Power’.
And now, ‘People Power’ is on the march again. It would appear that residents of Castle Ward (if not their elected representatives) have mobilised themselves – BIG-style.
One might suggest that the writing is on the wall for “SIDDON’s FOLLY”. And really, like Commissioner ALLOTT, Councillor SIDDONS should have seen this coming. Has he forgotten what the demolition of The Futurist Theatre did for Tory electability here in the Borough? If the ARGOS goes ahead, it is hard to imagine any Labour candidate grabbing a seat when the elections for the new Unitary Authority take place next May. And the Quisling-like Independents could well go the same way.
And if Councillor SIDDONS is relying on the support of the Scarborough Town Deal Board (STDB), he has clearly overlooked the very significant fact that, to the best of my knowledge, not one of the Board members even lives in Castle Ward.
What, Bottom Enders are asking, has the ARGOS project got to do with the STDB? Many of its members do not even live in Scarborough.

It is nothing short of magnificent.
I would ask the Castle Ward Councillors this question:
What is not to like about that?
