YCBID: “Don’t Pay Levy – Yet!”

  • an “In My View” article by NIGEL WARD, updating readers on a last desperate throw of the dice by Yorkshire Coast BID.

~~~~~
Following a clear indication from Scarborough Borough Council Cabinet Portfolio Holders to the effect that the Yorkshire Coast BID is now a pariah within the business community, the BID company has adopted a new stance.
In an attempt to persuade levy payers that the BID is all heart, the BID company is now encouraging businesses NOT to settle the levy invoices which, under the 2004 regulations, Scarborough Borough Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council are required to issue for the August 2020/ July 2021 BID year – for the moment (and IF the Councils agree) – in my view, a classic stroke of phoney ‘virtue signalling’.
Instead, YCBID expects businesses to settle their levy invoices in six months time – in the depths of the off-season,  when few will have two brass farthings to rub together.
As one prominent levy payer put it:
“Thanks a whole bunch, Clive Rowe-Evans – you are all heart.”
