“Praise & Condemnation”

A Letter to the Editor from WILLIAM PARKIN of Hinderwell, commenting on both sides of the YCBID stand-off.

~~~~~
Dear Sir,
First of all, I am not in business and am not affected by the Yorkshire Coast BID, but I have friends who are. It is proving to be legalised daylight robbery.
I have read the letter from Sandra Turner ‘Light Bulb Moments – Not Fit for Purpose’ and have looked on the Scarborough Council YouTube Channel as to what is going on at the meeting.
Clearly, Ms Carruthers has not got a clue as to how to run a business. If she did, she would not have waffled on for an hour on nothing, wasting everyone’s time trying to justify – what?  Her own job.  To call herself a Chief Executive is an insult to those paying her salary.  If the BID is to go on, it needs to sack the Chairman and Ms Caruthers as incompetent and put someone in there that is not simply justifying their existence.
I have got to add that the Brunswick Centre Manageress was superb.
I think the demise of the BID will come naturally. Another Director has left the sinking ship last week.  It appears that there are few others with the business acumen to run a £1m-a-year turnover business and I cannot see anyone else wanting to join. I presume the representatives of the Council have better things to do and will not want to be tarnished by being involved with a failure when it happens. With the change around in Local Government, no-one will want to be ‘that person who was on the failed BID’
Finally, Sandra Turner’s definition of ‘Integrity’ is:
“Choosing your thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain”.
Clearly, by that measure, Ms Carruthers and Mr Rowe-Evans do not have any.
Yours faithfully,
William Parkin
Hinderwell
