A few days after Scarborough Borough Councillor Theresa Norton appeared in court to answer a charge of blocking a road in Scarborough, a second charge as an Extinction Rebellion activist has come to light.
The Labour Councillor, representing Eastfield Ward, was charged under Section 241 of the Trade Union Act, namely compelling another person to abstain from doing an act which that person had a legal right to do.
The charge relates to the blockading an HS2 site near Watford on Friday October 9th 2020. Twenty other people were arrested at the protest whilst the outdoor rule of six was in operation during lockdown. The Extinction Rebellion activists were protesting about man-made global warming, which doesn’t exist. Its the Sun, stupid.
It is currently unknown if the Labour Councillor was convicted of an offence at the Watford HS2 site.
A formal complaint about Norton’s behaviour has been received under the Councillor’s Code of Conduct. Norton sits on the Scarborough Borough Council Standards Committee judging the behaviour of other councillors.
