A Letter to the Editor from NYE police and crime correspondent TIM HICKS, lamenting (as must we all) the passing of resident political cartoonist CodHead.
~~~~~
Sir,
CodHead: An Appreciation
I read of the passing of the NYE’s cartoonist CodHead with great sadness. I thought he was an artist and humourist of great ability. I admired his work not just for the accuracy of his cartoons, but also for the incisive humour and the way he applied these talents to the current issues of the day.
Two of my favourite of his cartoons which demonstrate the breadth of CodHead’s coverage of local events and his humour are below:
This one covered the potential impact of land slippage abutting the graveyard of St Mary’s Church, Whitby – just a stone’s throw from the famous ruins of Whitby Abbey:
This one covers the revelations of bullying by Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, Julia Mulligan:
I think CodHead made an outstanding contribution to local life, to the North Yorks Enquirer and also to its predecessor Real Whitby. I am saddened by his passing.
Yours faithfully,
Tim Hicks
NOTE:
Readers have been reminding us of their own particular favourites. Notably, the way in which Scarborough Police overlooked confirmed allegations regarding the SAVILE/JACONELLI paedophile rampage in Scarborough:
Not forgetting the ‘leaked’ benefit application, later picked up by Private Eye:
