WTC Cllr. & Former Mayor Bring NO CONFIDENCE VOTE re SBC Cabinet

Following the unanticipated level of support for a Scarborough resident’s on-line Petition calling for a VOTE of NO CONFIDENCE in SBC Leader Derek BASTIMAN and his seven colleagues in the Cabinet (pictured above: top row, L-to-R: Cllr. Derek BASTIMAN [Con.], Cllr. Helen MALLORY [Con.], Cllr. Mike COCKERILL [Ind.], Cllr. Bill CHATT [Ind.]. – bottom row, L-to-R: Cllr. Andrew JENKINSON [Con.], Cllr. Joe PLANT [Con.], Cllr. Sandra TURNER and Cllr. Andy BACKHOUSE [Con.]), Whitby Town (Parish) Council will meet on Tuesday 7th February 2017 to consider, amongst less salient matters, a Motion proposed by Councillor Ian HAVELOCK and seconded by former Mayor Councillor Terry JENNISON in the following terms:

The Agenda for Tuesday’s meeting can be found here.

Some WTC Councillors have expressed the view that it would be unwise to support the Motion, for fear of risking retribution by Councillor Derek BASTIMAN [Con.] (widely considered a mean-spirited and vindictive man) at a time when funding for the restoration and on-going maintenance of the Whitby Piers is a major priority in the town.

Others take the view that only through the removal and replacement of the present Leader and his seven Portfolio Holder colleagues can there be any prospect of prudent governance throughout the Borough.

One experienced Councillor told the Enquirer:

“The Motion is unlikely to succeed. Even so, the message is clear – Councillor BASTIMAN  and his cronies are not well supported in Whitby”.

Members of the public who have yet to sign the on-line Petition may still do so, here:

Over two thousand two-hundred-and-fifty people have already ‘signed’ the Petition, which will remain ‘live’ for as long as necessary. Public opinions are reproduced, below:
