BIG LOCAL Scarborough Sea Water Sampling

BIG LOCAL Scarborough Sea Water Sampling

Barrowcliff BIG LOCAL Chair, former SBC and NYCC Councillor Bill CHATT, has announced a community-driven sea water sampling event in partnership with marine experts from the Environment Team of Imperial College London, to be held on Monday 10th February at Gallows Close Play Centre from 2:00pm.

Residents are invited to bring their own sea water samples (using clean, empty water bottles) to be tested and analysed by the Imperial College team.

In comments recorded for local media distribution, Bill had this to say:

Bill has already provided 10 samples (from recorded locations in both the North and South Bays) and sent them to Imperial College for analysis.

Residents (and other interested parties) will be given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their concerns about the water quality with the Imperial College team.

Bill added:

Bill made a point of highlighting that the event is about “community groups coming together to do something for the community”.

The findings from the event are intended to be fed into steps being taken to improve sea water quality, not only in Scarborough and other coastal communities, but nationwide.

Imperial College is also considering creating a badge for sea swimmers to wear, which would allow them to track what they have been swimming in.

Everybody welcome – refreshments will be provided by Team Gallows and Barrowcliff Big Local.
