Scarborough – Just A Harbour?
North Yorks Enquirer Harbours Correspondent ALLAN ROBERTS writes to update readers on the long-running fiasco that wad fpormerly known as Scarborough Harbour.

Since May 2024, after Councillor Derek Bastiman was sacked by the NYC Leader, Councillor Carl Les, it has been Councillor Mark Crane who is the Executive with responsibility for Scarborough Harbour.
Since given that role, Cllr Crane has attended just two out of a possible ten meetings of the Town Deal Board/Neighbourhood Board Quango, and where, according to the minutes of those Boards, he has made no contribution to the Town Deal Boards plans for Scarborough Harbour:

Since May 2024, I understand that Councillor Crane has attended just one meeting of the Scarborough Harbour Users group, where his only contribution was to identify himself, before leaving the meeting midway through – without so much as a ‘by your leave’.
And yet despite Councillor Crane’s pitiful lack of involvement in the plans for the regeneration of Scarborough Harbour, this is what he has to say about those plans:

I have not been much of a fan of Councilllor Bastiman, but he most certainly had/has a far greater knowledge of the opportunities and potential of Scarborough Harbour, and he was/is not shy of sharing that knowledge.
Perhaps that may be the reason Councilllor Bastiman, who lives in Scarborough, was sacked, in favour of Councilllor Crane, who lives in Selby…
Is Councillor Crane’s role at NYC merely to announce what the Town Deal Board has already pre-decided for our Harbour?
