Readers of my article “Blatantly UNFAIR” (15th March 2020) may find the following document of special interest. Personally, I am most gratified to see that the opinion of highly-respected private sector solicitor, Mr Gareth PINWELL of ASHFORDS LLP, regarding the report on Mr Peter STANYON’s investigation into the way in which SBC conducted the ballot upon which the very existence of Yorkshire Coast BID Ltd is predicated, accords closely with my own published conclusions and points to the same remedy – RE-BALLOT.
Here follows Mr PINWELL’s letter to SBC Councillor Andy BACKHOUSE [Ind.] (in his capacity as Chair of the SBC Audit Committee (scheduled to meet at 2:00pm on Thursday 19th March 2020 – though the clear possibility exists that the meeting may be postponed on account of the coronavirus pandemic). It has been suggested to me that, as an employee of levy-payer Dawnay Estates, and as a former member of the Welcome to Yorkshire Tourism Advisory Board (instrumental in promoting the BID), Councillor BACKHOUSE may be ineligible to Chair the meeting – in which case, ‘newbie’ Councillor Alex BAILEY [Lab.] may inherit the unenviable task.
